December Update – Sunset in McDade

20. December 2010 category News

It is with great pleasure that we announce that we’ve resolved the last of the Premiere Pro/Protools issues, and Sound Design is finally underway.

For those who aren’t aware of the situation, we had a real hard time getting Protools to read the .OMF files produced by Adobe Premiere Pro. Scott eneded up having to upgrade to Protools 9, and we had to unnest all the clips in our timeline in Premiere so that only raw audio and video were present, and no clips or sub-clips.

Well, after a lot of back and forth and a lot of “unnestung” clips, we are finally moving forward.

Also, since we’re on doling out good news, we have a Composer attached to the project, David Pencil, and we are very excited to bring him on. He has worked with Director Val Gameiro on other projects, and he is a first class composer.

Next steps: finish sound design, scoring and do color-correction and titles.

From there, we’ll try and get the film seen as far and wide as possible!

Thanks for listening, and stay tuned!

Wrap Party a Success

1. November 2010 category News

A hearty hello and thanks to all who made it to the wrap party, and thanks to Kaye Brown for hosting it!

And in Angela Cecile Lee’s own words:

“Thank you so much, Kaye.  You never cease to amaze me.  You are the jewel of Ireland.  You and Lou prepared an incredibly beautiful and bountious feast.  Thank you so much for offering to host the wrap party and for so many little things you do along the way.  P.S. The tea was divine.

Thank all of you who could make it for coming to the Wrap Party.  It was wonderful to see everyone again – not in costume for a change (except for Frank “Tom Selick” West, P.I.).  There will be more occasions I’m sure.

I think it’s awesome that Paul and Sally made the trip all the way from Oklahoma to be with us.

Thank all you McDadians for coming to the party, and especially thank you all for all your hospitality while we were in McDade.  The film would not have been made without Andrew giving up his space for us, making the noose, supplying western gear and especially the old shot gun, and for Buddy having the delux — uh —  facilities; John and Dave for making awesome torches that read well on camera and didn’t burn down the tree or noose when the flame came a little too close.  And Johnny for landing Donny’s awesome ’71 Pontiac LeMans convertible, the Feed Store, the electricity, and being my go to guy in McDade from beginning to end.  I hope this was as rewarding to you guys as it was wonderful for us having you be a part of the film.  You all should consider listing in the Texas Film Commission directory.

Special thanks to Val who’s been the team leader on this as director, to Joe who’s been cutting up (that’s his job as editor) bringing his best to the project, and to Rita whose photos of the production are absolutely beautiful.

I was blessed with a great cast and awesome crew.  Thank you all for giving 150%.

The film is still in its rough stage, so for those who could not be there Saturday there will be other opportunities to get together.

On another note, two of our actors have been on television recently:

Grayson Berry (Young Will) was the yoga student/peeping Tom on last Friday’s episode of “The Good Guys”.  You can watch the full episode here: (http://www.fox.com/goodguys/full-episodes/ The Whistleblower)

Ken Bradley (Grown up Will) was in the 1st episode or pilot of CHASE (http://www.nbc.com/chase/episode-guide/season-1/33833/pilot/episode-101/33834/ )  I haven’t watched all of the Chase episodes yet, so I’m looking forward to this.  NBC recently ordered more episodes on CHASE, so Texas is very proud to be host to the production.

The nice thing about SUNSET IN MCDADE is that everyone had fun and many relationships were begun that would never have happened otherwise.

All best,

Angela”

Post-production continues as we work to wrap up the editing so we can then send the video to the Sound Designer (and Sound Engineer) Scott Reynolds and Composer George Oldziey, and then do final color correction on it and tack on the credits and get it all ready for submission to festivals, etc.

The Sunset in McDade trailer is up on youtube

15. October 2010 category News

If you’re just now catching up with this production, it was written and produced by Angela Cecile Lee, of Big Plume Productions.

The trailer was quickly put together by director Val Gameiro (IdealSceneProductions.com) and scored by George Oldziey (an awesome Austin, Texas composer who works with Robert Rodriguez).

We’ve uploaded it to youtube, so have a look and let us know what you think:

Editing in Progress {Sunset in McDade}

5. October 2010 category News

We’ve gone through all the footage, and are working on a rough cut.

Things are looking great, the footage is superb, and Joe Handley is making steady progress.

If you haven’t had a chance, check out the Production Stills page or our Techie Stuff page, covering our production workflow and other stats relating to the production.

If you have any questions, leave us a comment and we’ll do our best to respond :)

If you’re one of the many people who helped make this a reality, we look forward to seeing you at the Wrap Party at the end of the month… it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Principal Photography Wrapped {Sunset in McDade}

27. September 2010 category News

Well, here we are, 3 days after the start of the shoot, and we’re done.

It’s a great feeling of happiness for having completed yet another stage in the filmmaking process, but to a certain degree, at least for me (the Director) it’s also a sadness, knowing I don’t have any more days on set with my wonderful cast and crew!

First and foremost, Angela! I don’t know how many times I thanked her profusely, but it certainly warrants a few more, so… thank you for letting me be a part of your project…I know this was your baby, and I promise to continue to do all I can to make it the best film possible, and to get as many people on this green Earth of ours to see it :)

I’m very appreciative of the faith you deposited in me — I know I have a lot of learn, and goodness knows how many goofs I made… but you brought on a crew of professionals to help me out, and help me out they did.

I think we had the best cast and crew! Not to mention the wonderful folks in McDade who definitely exemplify the meaning of the word “Texas” and the expression “Southern Hospitality.” We had so many nice folks come up and chat, and offer to help… we are all very grateful :)

This process began back in June, right after Angela and I worked together on the Austin Actors Conservatory’s (SAG group) Script-to-Screen production of Twilight Nation by Philip Daay and Chris Engen (writers). Angela told me then she would have a set full of accomplished pros to make this dream an actuality, and she kept her word.

I hope everyone had as much fun on that set as I did… it certainly will be an experience I will never forget, and can’t wait to get back to McDade to work on some other projects.

Anyway, I already sent out a personal and private e-mail to the whole production, but again… thank you for all you did, and for those who will continue to work during the post-production, thank you for all you will do… I know we will make this one for the history books :)

Next steps, go through all the footage, get it to the editor, Joe Handley, who will cut the footage together, and then color correct it, then, when we have a final cut, get it to the Sound Engineer and Sound Designer, Scott Reynolds, who will make it sound like a real movie with sound effects (foley), etc. and then we’ll send it off to festivals and try and get as many folks to see it as possible… so, keep watching, and thanks for your support!

2nd Rehearsal went great

20. September 2010 category News

Yesterday was our 2nd rehearsal, and things went real well. We have a very cool cast, tremendously talented and with great ideas.

Despite the rain, we had a great rehearsal, went through some of the blocking, and tightened things up.

We’ll probably have 1 more small rehearsal before Thursday’s full dress rehearsal, and shooting on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Everyone is excited… we got a great story, a great cast, and a top-notch crew.

It’s going to be amazing!

Stay tuned!

First Rehearsal

10. September 2010 category News

We met in McDade, Texas today with most of the cast and part of the crew.

We went through all the blocking and lines with the actors, and nailed down a lot of the technical questions from the crew, in terms of make-up, wardrobe, set design, etc.

We are also lucky to have the participation of the locals in McDade in making this film come to life, so our warmest thanks to them for their help and enthusiasm.

Auditions

1. September 2010 category News

Auditions were held at the Nomad Bar off I35 on Saturday August 28th, and we had a lot of talented actors show up.

After much deliberation, and tough decision-making we arrived at our final casting.

We want to thank all those who submitted their resume to us, and all those who were chosen to audition. Choosing the right actor can sometimes be very difficult, especially when presented with so much great talent. Unfortunately we can’t use everybody.

We are very happy with the cast we have picked and can’t wait to start production.
